Structured Data is a way for Google to better index and categorize your website’s pages, with the goal of improving search ranking and increasing the amount of traffic that comes to the site.
Digett has already gone through and tagged existing Directory items (as of 1/24/2014), but when you create a new listing you’ll need to categorize it in the Structured Data Tag dropdown.
- Categories arranged hierarchically
- Use the most specific descriptor
- For example, Yoli’s Cocina is a LocalBusiness, a FoodEstablishment, and a Restaurant — so it is categorized as a Restaurant
- The Bookshop Under the Windmill is a LocalBusiness and a BookStore — so it is categorized as a BookStore
