Best of BoerneFest Block Party!
The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce, the City of Boerne, the Hill Country Mile, and the Hill Country Council for the Arts, invite you to join us at the Best of BoerneFest: Block Party 2013 on May 17 – 19, 2013 on Boerne’s Main Plaza. Event Chairs David Brown and Jeannemarie Wilson, both members of the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, anticipate a surge of between 6,000 and 8,000 visitors from around Texas into Boerne for that weekend.
Building on the momentum from the 2012 BoerneFest which more than 3,000 people attended, this high visibility festival captures the imagination of both visitors and the broad range of hill country residents as it explores the synergy of culture, community and commerce. The 2013 BoerneFest will demonstrate why Boerne holds the title of the 4th Best Small Town in America.
In a striking contrast to the abbreviated 2012 BoerneFest that ran for five hours this past May, the 2013 event will begin on a beautiful Friday evening under the stars with a free concert on the Plaza in the shadow of Boerne’s iconic gazebo. The Chamber has booked Two Tons of Steel, a well known Texas country band with a huge following that frequently appears at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry.
On Saturday, BoerneFest Partners will host a full range of events from the lush Farmers Market opening at 8:30 a.m. At 10 a.m. join us for the Fine Arts Show and exhibition. Activities designed to engage the kids also begin at 10. Until 5 p.m. you’ll be presented with all the ambiance of a street fair. Imagine a sea of brightly colored canopies that will encircle Main Plaza. Ribbons of business booths will meander around the Plaza interspersed with live entertainment, a food court, art displays and activities, with shaded areas. Watch groups of local volunteers build sculptures from donated canned goods and other projects in a new event called Donation Creation. Find artists and projects representing all age groups working together to demonstrate exactly why Boerne is such a culture-rich small town, one visitors may aspire to live in or visit again.
Spend Saturday evening on a blanket on Main Plaza swaying to the free concert starring the country music legend Gary P. Nunn, recently featured at the world famous annual Music Fest in Steamboat, Colorado. Nunn is the founding father of the progressive country movement out of Austin in the 1970s that changed the face of popular music, establishing himself as an icon of Lone Star music, inducted into the Texas Hall of Fame in 2004.
Sunday features two big events. First, beginning at 10 you are invited to participate in a self-guided art walk, euphemistically called the Boerne Art Waddle, through the Flats, one of Boerne’s beautiful residential areas just off of the Plaza. Then, at noon, enjoy lunch in the food court while listening to the free Make a Joyful Noise Concert on Main Plaza featuring Boerne’s faith-based community’s choirs, ensembles and bands. You can even join in if you want to!
