6 Reasons Why Boerne is a MEAT LOVER’S DREAM!

Boerne BBQIt’s not a big secret that Texans know how to Barbeque. We're not talking burgers and weenies my friends. The word barbeque brings to mind ribs that fall off the bone, grilled chicken that melts in your mouth, smoked brisket swimming in flavor & sausage that is unspeakably delicious & juicy. We're not even going to touch on the importance of sides in this blog post. That’s an entirely different story all together. Boerne is home to some of the best flame kissed meats around and it’s hidden in some unexpected places. Check it out!!

Boerne Wild Game Dinner1. Wild Game Dinner

The Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce has made an entire event surrounding MEAT! Make plans to attend the Wild Game Dinner on November 5th this year. Cook teams from all over the region will be grilling up all sorts of exotic meats. There’s bound to be something new to taste even for a well-traveled meat aficionado. Prepare your taste buds for Fried Alligator, Cajun Crawfish Pasta, Stuffed Pheasant, Bison Sliders or Bacon-Wrapped Nilgai, Duck Gumbo, Spicy Jambalaya and flavorful Axis Carne Guisada. Of course, there’s also “not-so-wild” food should you be traveling with a less adventurous palette.  Enjoy some old favorites like smoked turkey, smoked pulled pork, brisket tacos and beans.

Texas Meat Co Boerne2. Texas Meat Co.

Meet the new kid on the BBQ block in Boerne! Texas Meat Co. has quickly become a fan favorite round these parts. Their variety is vast, and freshness is a priority. They only make so much in a day and when they are out, they’re out. You will not see any day old meat here. They serve their meats by the pound or you can order up some of their mouthwatering specials including: Kahlua Style Pulled Pork, Grilled Gulf Oysters, Smoked Salmon or Chopped Beef Brisket Tacos on a House Made Tortilla. Remember the sides that are a whole other blog post? They have them here!!! Yummo! (Update: This restaurant is currently closed.)

Riverside Market Boerne3. Riverside Market

Don’t be fooled. Riverside Market is unexpectedly located in a gas station at the intersection of River Rd (HWY46) & Main St. (Bus. 87). When asked, employees say that their guests will agree that they have the best brisket in town, hands down! Their next favorite would be their “Wonder Roast” Rotisserie Chicken.  Insider favorite: CVB employee and longtime Boerne resident Gayle Stakes, raves about their BBQ sauce. So, load up on their sauce when you visit. Dine in or take your food on the road for a picnic at River Road Park. (Update: This restaurant is currently closed)

Klein's Meat Market Boerne4. Klein’s Meat Market

For those that are “Old Boerne” Klein’s may be known as Farmers Meat Market. The name changed but the owners and the quality cuts remain the same. During deer season this place is bustling with hunters bringing in their prizes to be processed, however they have a cold counter where you can select your own choice pieces of meat to prepare at home or order up a generous portion of BBQ to go and take the work out of the equation. They offer brisket, sausage, beef, pork, deer and other meats to go. Please note that there is not seating at this establishment. Take advantage of the great Texas weather and head out on a picnic.

Fritze's BBQ Boerne5. Fritze’s BBQ

You can’t argue with the public. Explore Magazine has rated Fritze’s BBQ the “Best Bar-B-Que in Kendall County” in 2015. Yelpers rave about the amazing and lean Jalapeno Sausage and state that their Stuffed Baked Potatoes are “habit forming.” Also, a little birdie told us that you also get free refills on their sides. Need BBQ on the go? They have a drive thru. How convenient!

Smokey Mo's Bar-B-Q Boerne6. Smokey Mo’s Bar-B-Q

They started the pit up in Cedar Park back in 2000. Word spread that they had the good stuff so they have opened 11 more locations around the state since then, and we lucked out. This family barbecue business has been smokin' up lean brisket, tender, juicy chicken and turkey and of course hot delicious sausage. Insider favorite: CVB Director Larry Woods said his favorite is the Pork Loin. It’s flavorful and perfectly smoky. Grab your grub to go in their drive thru.
