Free Fun in Boerne this April!

Boerne NatureBoerne fun can be had on a budget or no budget at all! April is a great month to get out an about and explore our charming community. Loads of fabulous free programs that will get you moving and shaking all around town are offered by several organizations this and every month. Get Fit Boerne!Get Fit Boerne! 10+ different locations will play host to 400+ free fitness and wellness programs for the whole family every day in April. Try something new this month because everything on the list is FREE! Register online through the Boerne Parks & Recreation Department prior to arriving at any activities. You will need your punch card to participate. Activity examples include: paddle boarding, boot camps, yoga, Pilates, step, trekking, barre, Wee Play for Babies, Zumba, pickle ball, beginning ballet, body pump, a variety of wellness seminars & so many more!

Boerne Car ShowsCar enthusiasts rejoice! April is the month to be in Boerne for car shows! Regular Saturday Hot Rod Nights at Soda Pops (April 2 & 23), The Austin-Healy Round Up & Lester’s Automotive Open Car Show on April 2nd as well as The Texas Corvette Associations Open Car Show on April 16th.

Movie in the ParkThe Movies in the Park series kicks off on April 29th with a special event “Honoring Our Heroes”. They will be showing “Max” at Boerne City Lake Park and have an assortment of preshow activities for the kiddos and kids at heart! The Lemonade Day taste off will also be going on at this event.

Parade of ArtistsThe second Saturday in April is all about art gallery exploration. The Boerne Parade of Artists and Second Saturday Art and Wine are both scheduled (as well as Boerne Market Days on Main Plaza) for this weekend and it’s a great opportunity to really get a handle on the Boerne Art Scene and explore the Hill Country Mile.

Art Al FrescoSpending time on the trails is always free and for the next year the Art Al Fresco Public Art Display will be up! Prepare for your outing by downloading the Otocast Mobile App on your smart phone or tablet to get the scoop on all of the artists and pieces in the temporary and permanent collection. Once you have finished your walk about town, please vote for your favorite piece online. The “Boerne’s Choice” piece will be recognized at the end of the exhibit and may become part of Boerne’s permanent collection!

Patrick Heath Public LibraryThe Patrick Heath Public Library has a wealth of resources digitally, as well as, in the library itself.  However, they also offer an abundance of programming for folks in a wide range of ages. Check out a full list or programs and services for children, teens, & adults on their calendar of events! Examples include story times for little ones, reading clubs for older kids, educational opportunities for older kids and adults, Live at the Library concerts and SOOOO much more! The public Amphitheatre Grand Opening Ceremony is a must on April 23rd with performers, food trucks and more. Stick around after the opening for a showing of "Magic Sward" at Library After Hours: Mystery Science Theatre 3000 with commentary from the Mystery Science Theatre 3000 gang!

Live MusicInterested in live music? There are several locations around town that offer regular, free, live music to enjoy in a great laid back atmosphere! Head to Facebook for the inside scoop on who’s playing at Random, The Roundup Beer Garden & Food Park, Drink Texas Biergarten &  Soda Pops Patio Grill & Bar, in the month of April. Some locations may have a cover for some shows so keep an eye out for that when you are searching.

Cibolo Nature CenterThe Cibolo Nature Center is the jackpot for those looking to have a fabulous nature experience for free or a suggested donation. You can always take a walk in the park and experience 4 different ecosystems in one piece of property but  what you may not know is that they offer a lot of great programs at no or low cost. Wednesdays are for “Little Explorers” (Free Program) and once a month, for $5 per family, you can participate in “Mother Nature’s Story Time”. The Farmers Market is every Saturday at the Herff Farm (Free Entry) and activities include Inspiration Garden Tours (Free), Kid’s Club & Jr. Gardner’s programs. There is a suggested donation of $5 per family on some activities. Their Spring Fever Festival is April 9th and includes an assortment of programs including Gardening Basics, Backyard Bees & Chicks, Composting with Worms, Garden Gourmet & more for only $5 per car!!!
