Art al Fresco LIVE!: Be a Part of the Art on March 25
If you’ve visited Boerne’s Hill Country Mile in the last year, you have likely seen at least a few of the amazing sculptures scattered throughout the downtown area and along the Trail System. You may not know that some of these beauties won’t be here forever; they are part of a plan created by the City of Boerne to attract visitors and to increase the City’s permanent public art collection. “Art al Fresco” provides us the up close and personal opportunity to experience great art right here in Boerne. The program was designed in 2015 to be a temporary, rotating exhibit of sculptures, chosen from entries by artists from all over the country, with a newly-chosen group replacing the last each year or so. The inaugural collection will soon come down, with 10 new temporary sculptures being installed, and the City is hosting a super fun (and free!) family event, Art al Fresco LIVE! to celebrate!
To kick off the second Art al Fresco exhibit, the City invites everyone to join local artists Saturday, March 25, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Patrick Heath Public Library’s amphitheater area for the family-friendly Art al Fresco LIVE! free event where Boerne's public art program, Art al Fresco, becomes an immersive outdoor experience for the whole family!
The fun starts at noon with a ribbon cutting to officially launch the newest Art al Fresco exhibit of 10 large-scale sculptures throughout Boerne’s Hill Country Mile and trail system. You can chat with several of the artists featured in the new exhibition, then stroll around the library’s campus to see live sculpting, pottery and painting demonstrations from various artists, including members of Boerne Professional Artists (BPA), and even create something of your own to take home! Inside the library, see an accompanying exhibit of photographs, paintings, jewelry and more from the BPA on display now through March 25. After AAF LIVE!, follow your map and check out the newly-installed sculptures up close, and visit the wonderful shops and restaurants along downtown Boerne’s Hill Country Mile!
Also—we asked, but the City won’t reveal the new Art al Fresco sculptures just yet, though they did send us a few “sneak peeks” to pique our curiosity. Be sure to come out March 25 to be the first to see the entire collection up close. For more details on Art al Fresco LIVE! visit them on Facebook.
